Four Ways to a Healthier Smile In The New Year

Everyone knows that they should be brushing twice daily and flossing at least once. Did you know that’s the bare minimum of what you should be doing to keep your smile healthy?

At Bear Valley Dental Care, we are committed to helping you have the healthiest smile possible. These are four ways you might not know about:

  • Get Your Teeth Cleaned Twice A Year. Dental cleanings need to happen about every six months for them to be completely effective. This is the best way to keep plaque from becoming hardened calculus on your teeth. If you’re recovering from gum disease, schedule a cleaning as often as every 3-4 months.
  • Change Your Toothbrush. Have you been using that toothbrush all year? Sounds like it’s time for a change. We recommend that you change your toothbrush out every three months. Buy four at the beginning of the year, and you won’t have to remember to purchase them later!
  • Drink Your Water! Saliva helps protect your teeth, but when you get dehydrated there is less of it, making it thicker and less effective. Drinking water through the day not only rinses your mouth of any leftovers from meals, but also promotes healthy salivary function.
  • Get Straight. You might think that crooked teeth are merely a cosmetic concern. The truth is that teeth with alignment problems are more difficult to clean effectively. This can lead to tooth decay and gum disease, even when you brush and floss the way you should. Talk to Dr. Sampat and find out if Invisalign is an option for you.

At Bear Valley Dental Care, we want you and your family to have the healthiest smiles possible. Contact our Boyertown office today to set up your appointments for this year!
